When we think or hear the name "Elohim" what comes to mind? Have you ever tried to think on the name "Elohim" and what it means?
It is the plural name for the Creator of the Universe, it is the third word in B'reisheet, "B'reisheet Bara Elohim" (In The Beginning, G-d created…)
When we read in Deuteronomy, "Shema Israel, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad" the word "Echad" points us to the "Unity of ONE" Adonai- Elohim is ONE yet is plural in character.
His name, when spelled out in Hebrew letters, can be spelled with or without the "Vav" in Genesis, the "Vav" is omitted. Yet we can also say that the "Vav" is important too.
Without the "vav" we get Aleph, Lamed, Hey, Yod, Mem
These are 5 letters, the number "5" is the number of grace, We worship the "G-d of Grace" who does not issue forth just punishment for sin deserved, yet is "longsuffering" and reaches out to us.
When we look at the letters from a Paleo-Hebrew perspective, we see;
Behold (Hey) The Strong G-d who leads (EL) and teaches us (through the Torah) stretched forth His mighty hand (Yod) to create all things, including the Masses of humanity, or the "Sea of Humanity" (Mem)
In Gematria, "Elohim" is "86" (a new beginning for man)
However, when the "Vav" is added, the "Vav" symbolizes a "connection" or the "nail" we can get the following understanding from a Messianic Jewish standpoint.
The strong G-d who teaches and leads us through his Torah reaches down to touch humanity and suffered the "nail" to pay the price of sin, for all mankind.
When the "Vav" is added, the gematria is "92" "9" being the number of "truth" if we add up the letters of "Emet" (Aleph, Mem, Tav)
1 + 40 + 400 = 441, 4+4+1=9. Which is one of the titles of Yeshua (I AM the Way the Truth and the Life)
"2" is the number of a covenant, it takes "2" parties to make a covenant. Elohim made a covenant with man in "Gan Eden" yet man (Adam) broke the covenant through sin, yet the covenant was renewed, it was renewed through the blood of Mashiach, illustrated by the animal sacrifices.
The most sacred name of G-d as we know has 4 letters, the Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey, which also illustrate in the ancient Hebrew, "Behold the hand, behold the nail"
So, the next time we think of the name "Elohim" is has a lot to say
